Costa Rica Free Time

How much free time is there during the program?
Ample time is available on evenings and weekends to enjoy the numerous nearby natural and cultural attractions. The country manager will lead you through basic Spanish lessons on greetings, common phrases, etc. and introduce you to Costa Rican traditions. The team views a video explaining Monteverde history, environment and conservation efforts. You can also expect to learn how to make empanadas and other local recipes with your teammates after the work day.

Cultural sharing is "impromptu," depending upon current events. For instance, during local or national elections, volunteers can expect to learn about political practices in democracy, such as voting, political party differences, and campaign strategies.

What are free time options?
Costa Rica Fre TimeThere are many exciting activities in the Monteverde region: The Santa Elena and Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserves, The Butterfly Garden, The Serpentarium, The Orchid Garden, The Frog Pond, dance clubs, The Cheese Factory, horseback riding, art galleries, The Monteverde Institute, local performances of music and other arts, a women's craft cooperative (CASEM), and the coffee cooperative and roaster.
