Greece: Working in Crete and Northern Greece, volunteers have taught English to village youths and university students, and brought compassion and care to institutionalized handicapped citizens since the program began in 1995.
Ecuador: Our volunteers have served at-risk children in and near Quito since 1996. Together with local people, our teams have constructed a group home and daycare facilities, built adaptive furniture & playgrounds, provided health care assistance, taught English language skills, and befriended local people who maintain projects for economically impoverished and disabled children.
China: Since 1996, up to 18 volunteer teams per year have shared goodwill, English lessons and legal and medical expertise in Xi'an, Yunnan, An Shang and Hainan Island. "Project Peace," a village development program, is emblematic of the strong commitment between Global Volunteers and the local leadership in our host communities.
Ghana: Since 1998, over a steady stream of volunteer teams have helped build school facilities, teach English and assist with health care in a small coastal fishing village and a broader inland agricultural community.
Cook Islands: Since 1998, volunteers have flown to this South Pacific enclave to tutor island children in reading skills, provide health care assistance, clear forest trails, and work on eldercare projects.
India: Since 1999, over hearty volunteers have befriended and taught homeless, abandoned and disabled youth, and helped upgrade and renovate dilapidated community building in major urban areas.
Romania: Begun in 1999, this program has attracted up to 18 volunteer teams each year who feed, nurture, and stimulate at-risk babies in a hospital clinic. They've also, painted and repaired playrooms, sorted clothing, restored a playground, and taught English language skills to eager elementary and secondary school students.
Hungary: Eager volunteers have help elementary students with English language skills and widened their global perspectives through interactive classroom exercises since 2003.
Peru: Begun in 2004, this urban Lima partnership engages volunteers on the campus of the largest South American orphanage. Projects include child care, English teaching, painting and repair of campus buildings, and assisting with physical therapy sessions.
South Africa: Begun in 2008, our teams assist local people with diverse capacity-building projects in the areas of education, economic self-reliance and social development and assist with labor projects.
Vietnam: From 1991 to 1995 and returning in 2008, Global Volunteers teams have taught conversational English to high school and university students and younger children at a local orphanage.
